Storage Tank Services Designed for Safety and Environmental Protection

Fuel tanks play a vital role in securely storing fuel. When in pristine condition, your tank protects fuel from contamination, prevents leaks and keeps you compliant with government regulations. A great tank keeps your fuel supply consistent and easy to manage.

An old, damaged or unmaintained fuel tank can be a recipe for environmental disaster. If a fuel tank corrodes and lets fuel leak into the ground, it can have long-term impacts on the soil, nearby waterways and even the air. Fuels such as gasoline are not good for the health of people or animals — they can even be carcinogenic.

Even if it never leaks, a left behind fuel tank can spur regulatory violations and unexpected costs for commercial property owners. From the inspection to remediations you need reliable and professional technicians ready to provide expert advice and services.

Commonwealth Environmental Association is a Richmond, VA-based environmental services company with the capability to help you with all facets of storage tank management: testing, removal, replacement, site characterization, corrective and remedial actions. Our team travels around the East Coast to help you ensure the fuel tank on your property is safe, stable and compliant with federal guidelines.

Under and Above Ground Fuel Tank Assessment, Removal and Replacement

CEA fully understand the governing regulations of each locality, in order to ensure your fuel containment equipment is compliant and secure. Each of our fuel tank assessments provides you with straightforward information about any potential negative impacts on your property.

Whether it’s the removal of a tank at a former gas station property or the installation of a replacement tank, you’re in good hands. From tank closure/removal, leak investigation and cleanup, CEA has the fuel tank skills for the job.

In order to provide the most comprehensive fuel tank services on the East Coast, our team also can oversee design and provide project management services for system upgrades upon the completion of remediation.

Initially, a tank assessment should be completed to determine if a leak of petroleum has occurred. The initial tank assessment typically includes the collection of soil samples adjacent to the tank. If a leak has occurred, it must be reported to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ). The VDEQ currently has a program to assist in the cleanup process. Typically, the deductible for the commercial use tanks is $5,000 through the VDEQ program.

Cathodic Protection Testing Services

Cathodic protection (CP) is one option for protecting an underground storage tank from corrosion. The system must be tested by a qualified cathodic protection tester within six months of installation and at least every three years thereafter. In addition, cathodic protection systems must be tested within six months of any repair to any cathodic-protected Underground Storage Tank system.
